  • Where are you located?

    We’re based on a working sheep farm on the Wicklow–Kildare border, just 45 minutes from Dublin. You’ll find us in the heart of the countryside but still easy to reach by car or tour bus. A map and directions are on our Contact Page.

  • How long does a demonstration last?

    Each sheepdog demonstration lasts approximately 50 minutes. This gives plenty of time to enjoy the dogs in action, learn about training techniques, and ask questions.

  • What’s included in a sheepdog demonstration?

    You’ll see skilled Border Collies respond to traditional whistle commands, watch them herd sheep across the fields, and learn about the history and techniques of sheepdog training. In springtime, you may even meet some new lambs!

  • Are the demonstrations suitable for children?

    Absolutely! Families are very welcome. Children love watching the dogs in action, and our demonstrations are fun, educational, and interactive.

  • Do you offer private or school tours?

    Yes. We run private demonstrations for groups, as well as tailored experiences for schools and educational visits. Please get in touch via our enquiry form for details.

  • Do you run sheepdog training programs for owners?

    Yes! At Irish Working Sheepdogs, we recognise the importance of the bond between a dog and its owner. Michael offers step-by-step sheepdog training lessons to help owners develop their dog’s skills. Simply contact us to learn more.

  • How much does it cost?

    Our standard demonstration pricing can be found on the Booking Page. Private group or school tours are priced separately — please contact us for a tailored quote.

  • What should I wear?

    We recommend wearing comfortable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, as demonstrations take place on a real working farm and the Irish weather can be unpredictable.

  • Is the farm accessible for visitors with mobility needs?

    We do our best to make our demonstrations as accessible as possible. Please contact us ahead of your visit so we can assist.

  • Are dogs or pets allowed?

    For the safety of our sheep and working dogs, we cannot allow visitor pets on the farm.

  • Can I take photos or videos during the demonstration?

    Yes — photos and videos are very welcome! We love seeing guests share their experience. Please tag us on Instagram @irishworkingsheepdogs.

  • Do you have a shop on-site?

    Yes, we have a small shop featuring Irish-made wool products, gifts, and souvenirs, so you can take a piece of Ireland home with you.

  • What languages are demonstrations in?

    Demonstrations are delivered in English, but we often welcome visitors from all over the world and keep the experience clear, engaging, and easy to follow.

  • What else can we do nearby?

    We’re ideally located for exploring Wicklow and Kildare. From Glendalough and Blessington Lakes to Wicklow Gaol and Russborough House, there are plenty of ways to extend your day. See our Things To Do & See page for recommendations.

  • A wonderful experience from start to finish. The dogs are clearly well-loved and cared for, and an incredible testament to their training. Michael did an excellent job of explaining the training process and sheep farming to us. The sheep were beautiful and the facilities were clean and easy to find, and it started on time. He happily answered questions of all sorts and was a pleasure to learn from.

  • Michael was wonderful, educational, and an all around good time for our visit. And here I’m posting months later because I had picked up a pair of wool socks. And now (Jan 2024) it’s blizzarding in my home state of Iowa and these have been the warmest, best socks. Today’s high was -2 °F and 40 mph wind gusts. But in my boots, those socks kept me warm and comfortable.
